Back To The Future?

But for the names being different from those currently in charge, this Chicago Tribune cartoon from 75 years ago could have been drawn about the current administration.

(c) 1934 Chicago Tribute

It wasn't until 1947, when the Republicans regained control of the Congress, that the economy was able to start to recover from the economic mess created by the Democrat's attempts to revive the economy following the Great Depression. Let's hope that it does not require as much time or another World War to reverse the current course of action being pushed through by Obama and the Democrats.

Our National Anthem Performed By Heroes

One of the finest renditions of the National Anthem ever recorded. It was performed before the Super Bowl XXIX crowd on February 6th, 2005. The game featured the Patriots versus the Eagles. How appropriate are those team names?

Football Final Score: New England Patriots 24, Philadelphia Eagles 21

New Preamble to the Constitution

The following is circulating once again and incorrectly being attributed to Mitchell Kaye of Georgia. However, its true author is Lewis Napper, a computer consultant from Mississippi who ran for the U.S. Senate as a Libertarian back in 2000. Regardless of its origins, it reflects some widely held beliefs that are as appropriate at this time as any...

Preamble To The Constitution Revised.

'We the sensible people of the United States, in an attempt to help everyone get along, restore some semblance of justice, avoid more riots, keep our nation safe, promote positive behavior, and secure the blessings of debt-free liberty to ourselves and our great-great-great-grandchildren, hereby try one more time to ordain and establish some common sense guidelines for the terminally whiny, guilt ridden, delusional. We hold these truths to be self evident: that a whole lot of people are confused by the Bill of Rights and are so dim they require a Bill of NON-Rights.'

ARTICLE I:
You do not have the right to a new car, big screen TV, or any other form of wealth. More power to you if you can legally acquire them, but no one is guaranteeing anything.

ARTICLE II:
You do not have the right to never be offended. This country is based on freedom, and that means freedom for everyone -- not just you! You may leave the room, turn the channel, express a different opinion, etc.; but the world is full of idiots, and probably always will be.

ARTICLE III:
You do not have the right to be free from harm. If you stick a screwdriver in your eye, learn to be more careful; do not expect the tool manufacturer to make you and all your relatives independently wealthy.

ARTICLE IV:
You do not have the right to free food and housing. Americans are the most charitable people to be found, and will gladly help anyone in need, but we are quickly growing weary of subsidizing generation after generation of professional couch potatoes who achieve nothing more than the creation of another generation of professional couch potatoes.

ARTICLE V:
You do not have the right to free health care. That would be nice, but from the looks of public housing, we're just not interested in public health care.

ARTICLE VI:
You do not have the right to physically harm other people. If you kidnap, rape, intentionally maim, or kill someone, don't be surprised if the rest of us want to see you fry in the electric chair.

ARTICLE VII:
You do not have the right to the possessions of others. If you rob, cheat, or coerce away the goods or services of other citizens, don't be surprised if the rest of us get together and lock you away in a place where you still won't have the right to a big screen color TV or a life of leisure.

ARTICLE VIII:
You do not have the right to a job. All of us sure want you to have a job, and will gladly help you along in hard times, but we expect you to take advantage of the opportunities of education and vocational training laid before you to make yourself useful. Amen and Amen

ARTICLE IX:
You do not have the right to happiness. Being an American means that you have the right to PURSUE happiness, which by the way, is a lot easier if you are unencumbered by an over abundance of idiotic laws created by those of you who were confused by the Bill of Rights.

ARTICLE X:
This is an English speaking country . We don't care where you are from, English is our language. Learn it or go back to wherever you came from!

Lastly
ARTICLE XI:
You do not have the right to change our country's history or heritage. This country was founded on the belief in one true God. And yet, you are given the freedom to believe in any religion, any faith, or no faith at all; with no fear of persecution. The phrase IN GOD WE TRUST is part of our heritage and history, and if you are uncomfortable with it, TOUGH!

The Lawyer's Party

I received the following by eMail and found it compelling enough to post 'as is'...

The Democratic Party has become the Lawyers' Party.
- Barack Obama is a lawyer.
- Michelle Obama is a lawyer.
- Hillary Clinton is a lawyer.
- Bill Clinton is a lawyer.
- John Edwards is a lawyer.
- Elizabeth Edwards is a lawyer.

Every Democrat nominee since 1984 went to law school (although Gore did not graduate).

Every Democrat Vice Presidential nominee since 1976, except for Lloyd Bentsen, went to law school.

Look at leaders of the Democrat Party in Congress:
- Harry Reid is a lawyer.
- Nancy Pelosi is a lawyer.

The Republican Party is different.
- President Bush is a businessman.
- Vice President Cheney is a businessman.

The leaders of the Republican Revolution:
- Newt Gingrich was a history professor.
- Tom Delay was an exterminator.
- Dick Armey was an economist.
- House Minority Leader Boehner was a plastic manufacturer.
- The former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist is a heart surgeon.

Who was the last Republican president who was a lawyer? Gerald Ford who left office 31 years ago and after barely winning the Republican nomination as a sitting President when he ran against Ronald Reagan in 1976. The Republican Party is made up of real people doing real work, who are often the targets of lawyers.

The Democrat Party is made up of lawyers. Democrats mock and scorn men who create wealth, like Bush and Cheney, or who heal the sick, like Frist, or who immerse themselves in history, like Gingrich.

The Lawyers' Party sees these sorts of people, who provide goods and services that people want, as the enemies of America . And so we have seen the procession of official enemies, in the eyes of the Lawyers' Party, grow.

Against whom do Hillary and Obama rail? Pharmaceutical companies, oil companies, hospitals, manufacturers, fast food restaurant chains, large retail businesses, bankers, and anyone producing anything of value in our nation.

This is the natural consequence of viewing everything through the eyes of lawyers. Lawyers solve problems by helping their clients seek restitution. Lawyers seek to have new laws passed, they seek to win lawsuits, they press appellate courts to overturn precedent, they encourage judges to legislate from the bench, and lawyers always parse language to favor their side.

While that may work for the legal system it is not the way to govern a nation. When politicians as lawyers begin to view some Americans as clients and other Americans as opposing parties then the role of the legal system in our life becomes all-consuming forcing some Americans to become "adverse parties" of our very government. We are not all litigants in some vast social class-action suit. We are citizens of a Republic that promises us a great deal of freedom from laws, from courts, and from lawyers.

Today, we are drowning in laws; We are contorted by judicial decisions; We are driven to distraction by omnipresent lawyers in all parts of our once private lives. America has a place for laws and lawyers, but that place is modest and reasonable, not vast and unchecked. When the most important decision for our next President is whom he will appoint to the Supreme Court, the role of lawyers and the law in America is too big. When lawyers use criminal prosecution as a continuation of politics by other means as happened in the lynching of Scooter Libby and Tom Delay, then the power of lawyers in America is too great. When House Democrats sue America in order to hamstring our efforts to learn what our enemies are planning to do to us, then the role of litigation in America has become crushing.

We cannot expect the Lawyers' Party to provide real change, real reform or real hope in America. Most Americans know that a republic in which every major government action must be blessed by nine unelected judges is not what Washington intended in 1789. Most Americans grasp that we cannot fight a war when ACLU lawsuits snap at the heels of our defenders. Most Americans intuit that more lawyers and judges will not restore declining moral values or spark the spirit of enterprise in our economy.

Perhaps Americans will understand that change cannot be brought to our nation by those lawyers who already largely dictate American society and business. Perhaps Americans will see that hope does not come from the mouths of lawyers but from personal dreams nourished by hard work. Perhaps Americans will embrace the truth that more lawyers with more power will only make our problems worse.

The United States has 5% of the world's population and 66% of the world's lawyers! Tort (Legal) reform legislation has been introduced in congress several times in the last several years to limit punitive damages in ridiculous lawsuits such as 'spilling hot coffee on yourself and suing the establishment that sold it to you' and also to limit punitive damages in huge medical malpractice lawsuits. This legislation has continually been blocked from even being voted on by the Democrat Party. When you see that 97% of the political contributions from the American Trial Lawyers Association goes to the Democrat Party, then you realize who is responsible for our medical and product costs being so high!

It makes some very interesting points. It also helps explain why legislation is so wordy and written so that only lawyers can understand them.

Stimulus May Have Worsened Colorado's Budget Crisis

According to Amber Gunn, Economic Policy Center director for the Evergreen Freedom Foundation, any state that accepted federal stimulus dollars and used the money to prop up current budget crises may have actually created more problems for future years. Apparently, the money came with "maintenance of effort" provisions in the Recovery Act potentially limiting cuts to Medicaid and education, not just K-12 but also higher education. Many states ignored or overlooked this contingency in their efforts to attract federal stimulus money. States receiving federal monies may be required to maintain levels of funding for programs based upon July 1, 2008 levels, in turn forcing drastic cuts in other services and programs due to the requirement to return funding to pre-2009 budget cut levels.

Considering that Colorado accepted federal stimulus money and Gov. Ritter has already proposed decreasing subsidizes to higher education in order to help balance the budget, we can only hope that our state leaders have read the fine print and spent the stimulus money such that the federal mandates for "maintenance of effort" funding will not be triggered.

Don't Look Behind The Curtain

The White House is currently waging war on Fox News while issues needing critical attention are being left to wallow in the background. Although many critics of the administration have labelled the attacks as an extension of the typical bullying tactics from Obama's Chicago home or the Administration's thin skin in dealing with objectors, careful examination reveals an underlying strategy. The bickering masks a carefully orchestrated effort to distract attention from the real agenda.

Anyone who has practiced or studied the Art of Prestidigitation, commonly referred to as magic, understands that the key to its success lies in misdirecting the audience's attention. The magician may use a cloth, a curtain, smoke, or simply point to his other hand as a distraction in order to successfully perform the trick or illusion.

The Obama campaign masterfully diverted the public from the Chicago Senator's lack of experience and questionable associations by mesmerizing the people with an almost hypnotic chant for change and hope. Like the late night cable channel psychic, Obama sized up his audience and tailored his message so that it emphasized the topics of interest to the greatest numbers. Obama then delivered speeches to the masses with such inspiring rhetoric that he totally mesmerized audiences. The message sounded too good and felt so right that it had to be the "way."

Now in the position of having to deliver upon its promises, the White House faces scrutiny with many of its positions not passing the fact-checking being done by Fox News. Could this present a problem for the administration? Not if your Chief of Staff is Rahm Emanuel who issued the infamous memo last Fall that stated, "Rule one: Never allow a crisis to go to waste." Following Rule One, the White House immediately cranked up the Crisis Machine sending representatives out enmasse into the media outlets to discredit Fox News as an arm of the GOP and not really a news organization.

While a disagreement between the White House and the media is not typically a crisis, elevating it to such status offered an opportunity for the administration to restart and even ramp up its misdirection strategy ability used so effectively during the campaign. By incessantly attacking Fox News, the Administration creates a smoke screen designed to confuse and distract. With each attack wave, the focus is drawn away from the back room deals being cut for health care reform, as well as cap and trade legislation. Negotiations for both bills continue secretly in partisan committees under the influence of special interest groups that supported Obama during his campaign. These actions negate Obama's campaign pledges of bi-partisanship, openness, and transparency in the process. Likewise, the drama distracts attention from Obama's indecision about the Afghanistan troop build-up issue, thereby buying himself time with far left liberals whose support he needs in order to get the pending legislation passed.

Also lost in the haze: The stimulus is not working as sold and the housing market may take another downturn with the expiration of the first time buyer tax credits. Proposals for a second stimulus package and the administration's over zealous attempts to further expand regulation of the private sector through Net Neutrality Act and the Fairness Doctrine continue with little challenge. Few people seem concerned by the reports that the explosive growth in national debt may jeopardize the country's previously exceptional credit rating, making it more difficult and expensive to borrow money.

However, there is still time to step back and see the reality, not the illusion. In fact, the act may be unravelling on its own as hecklers, in the form of the other networks, have begun to question the administration's actions. Yesterday, the other members of the White House media pool refused to participate in a scheduled interview with the administration's Pay Czar when it was discovered that Fox News had been excluded. It could be that the attacks on Fox News are becoming less distracting which begs the question what will the administration use as the next distraction?

Pay attention and don't allow yourself to get distracted by the illusionist.
